Family Estrangement and Conflict

Family estrangement is one of the most isolating experiences a person can carry. It does not fit into a clean narrative, and the people around you may not understand why distance from family can feel both necessary and devastating at the same time. Whether you are the one who created distance or the one who experienced it, the relational weight does not simply go away.

At Jackson Therapy & Consulting, I work with adults in Omaha and across Nebraska and Pennsylvania (via telehealth) who are navigating fractured family relationships and looking for clarity, healing, or a path forward that feels right for them.

You May Benefit From Support If You

  • Are considering distance or no-contact with a family member and do not know how to move forward

  • Feel caught between your own boundaries and the pressure to maintain family relationships

  • Carry guilt, grief, or confusion about a family relationship that has become painful or unsafe

  • Have experienced repeated boundary violations, dismissal, or emotional harm within your family

  • Are an adult child processing the impact of growing up in a high-conflict or dysfunctional home

  • Want to repair a family relationship but do not know where or how to begin

How I Work With Family Estrangement and Conflict

My approach draws on Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and trauma-informed frameworks. Whether you are working through estrangement individually or your family is ready to engage together through a Family Intensive, the work is paced around your goals and your readiness. There is no pressure toward reconciliation or distance.

We will work to understand the relational patterns and experiences that brought you here, identify what you actually need from your family relationships, and build tools for navigating these dynamics with greater confidence and less pain. Clients often describe the process as liberating: a space where their experience is taken seriously and they can move forward with greater clarity, self-trust, and agency.

Family Intensives for Relational Repair

If your family is ready to engage together, a Family Intensive offers a focused, multi-hour structure for families navigating estrangement, chronic conflict, or long-standing relational patterns. Intensives are designed for families who want an accelerated path toward repair, understanding, and long-term relational change.

Areas of Focus

  • Family estrangement and no-contact decisions

  • Adult children of dysfunctional or high-conflict families

  • Boundary violations and chronic relational patterns

  • Parental relationships following estrangement

  • Families navigating a member's mental health challenges

  • Relational impact of high-control or fundamentalist religious environments

Estrangement is not a decision made lightly. Whatever brought you here, your experience deserves to be understood with the full weight it carries.
