Body Image and Weight
The relationship you have with your body is shaped by far more than what you see in the mirror. It is shaped by messages you received growing up, experiences that taught you your body was something to manage or fix, and a culture that rarely makes room for anything outside a narrow definition of acceptable. Working through body image challenges is not about learning to love how you look. It is about understanding how you came to feel the way you do and building a relationship with your body rooted in compassion rather than criticism.
At Jackson Therapy & Consulting, I work with adults in Omaha and across Nebraska and Pennsylvania (via telehealth) who are ready to approach body image and weight-related challenges from a psychological and self-compassionate framework.
You May Benefit From Support If You
Find that thoughts about your body, food, or weight take up significant mental and emotional space
Feel shame, disgust, or persistent dissatisfaction with your body regardless of how it changes
Notice that body image affects your relationships, confidence, or willingness to engage in daily life
Have a history of dieting, restriction, or cycles that leave you feeling worse rather than better
Are navigating body changes related to illness, hormonal conditions, pregnancy, or aging
Want to stop fighting your body and start understanding your relationship with it
How I Work With Body Image and Weight
My approach draws on Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, and a self-compassion framework that prioritizes psychological wellbeing over appearance-based outcomes. Together we explore the beliefs, experiences, and relational messages that shaped how you see yourself and begin building a perspective that is grounded in your actual values rather than external standards.
We will work to identify the thought patterns and emotional triggers that sustain body image distress, understand where those patterns came from, and develop a more stable and compassionate relationship with yourself. Clients often describe the shift as feeling less at war with themselves.
Intensive Support for Body Image Challenges
If body image distress is significantly affecting your daily functioning or you are navigating an acute period of difficulty, an Individual Intensive may be the right fit. Intensives offer 3 to 4 consecutive sessions designed to provide concentrated, focused support when you need it most.
Areas of Focus
Body image and chronic body dissatisfaction
Weight-related shame and self-criticism
Body changes connected to PCOS and hormonal conditions
Body image following pregnancy, illness, or medical treatment
Disordered eating patterns and restrictive cycles
Self-worth and identity as they intersect with body image
The goal is not a different body. It is a different relationship with the one you have — one built on understanding rather than judgment.
